I’ve been watching K-dramas (and C-dramas plus J-dramas for that matter) for over 10 years now, and so it makes me really happy that a lot of people in my circle have started to appreciate this thing that has been bringing me joy for a long time now. While I am aware that a lot of people have been enjoying Asian dramas as long as I have (or probably even much longer) one cannot dispute that it’s on a different scale now thanks to Netflix and Viu and other similar streaming platforms.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS: ‘Youth Of May’
Seems like K-Ent has finally regained its footing after being taken by surprise by the crazy series of bullying scandals the past few months. Finishing a set of dramas that broadcasted at the same time always used to carry with it this sense of excitement for the upcoming lineup, but lately it’s been a lackluster affair. For a time before ‘Vincenzo’ there weren’t many Kdramas that caught my interest, but this new batch of dramas are getting me back into the mood. That makes me so happy!
I have a lot of May/June premieres that I am seriously looking forward to, although it remains to be seen which ones I’ll end up actually watching. I usually give it 4 episodes before I decide to continue or drop. This time I thought it would be fun to compare first impressions and final thoughts for certain dramas that draw me in. Let’s start with ‘YOUTH OF MAY’.
Thoughts upon finishing ‘Vincenzo’
It’s over! 😭😭😭
This is one of those rare dramas that gave me separation anxiety lol but it’s also making me think about it a surprising lot days after finishing it. I expected ‘Vincenzo‘ to be action-packed, cinematic, and pretty to look at, and while I got all that, I was not expecting this show to be so nuanced and compelling underneath. I’ve never felt the urge to rewatch any drama before, but I am thinking of doing it with ‘Vincenzo‘. There’s a first for everything, huh?
